Welcome
The Sacramento Aquarium Society (SAS) is a local fish club that meets at 7:00 pm on the first Saturday of each month. We are a non-profit organization with an objective to encourage and further the interest of the care and breeding of tropical fish and to promote the exchange of information between amateur aquarists. Meetings typically include a guest speaker, bowl show, raffle, attendance prize, and an auction which includes fish, aquatic plants, and aquarium supplies. Many of the auction items go for less than wholesale prices.
Next Meeting Saturday, June 2nd
Program: Chuck Rambo - "Introduction to Carnivorous Plants"
Why are we having a carnivorous plant talk this month and what does this have to do with keeping fish? In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s aquarists did not have much in the way of selection when it comes to aquarium plants. Many aquarists chose to collect their own plants from nearby creeks and pools. Some of these aquatic plants thrived by feeding on young fish and snails in their aquariums. Once this became well known then aquarists moved on to more traditional aquarium plants. With the current planted tank craze going around many aquarists are now keeping some of these aquatic carnivorous plants without even knowing it. Chuck has been keeping freshwater aquariums for over 40 years, and began keeping carnivorous plants about 5 years ago. His talk will include these aquatic carnivorous plants and some potential pond and house plants that are not only attractive but provide some insect control too.
